My favorite photography buddy Nick Amrhein and I had a blast today shooting his friend Angela, who’s from Ohio and visiting Los Angeles for the first time. Nick and I had a field day with Angela first at Walt Disney Concert Hall and then later in the evening at the Metrorail station in North Hollywood. I seriously can’t remember the last time I had this much fun doing photography! Today’s outing was the first time I got to do a photo shoot with another photographer, and one I’m very fortunate to have met about three months ago.

Angela was a real sport with us today, willing to try whatever poses we threw out at her…in high heels! So major props to her for that. If you read this, I hope you like the photos and your stay here :). Regarding Nick, he recently moved to LA and is starting his fashion photography business; besides taking photos of Angela today, I observed how Nick interacted with her and in the process learned a ton by doing that. Nick has a knack for being creative and going that extra step to get an amazing shot, qualities I totally dig. He also knows how to make the subject feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera.

In addition to the photos I took of Angela, I also posted below some behind-the-scenes shots of Nick doing his thing. I’ll put a link to Nick’s shots of her once he puts them up online. We’re going to try and shoot every chance we get, so look for lots more photos from us two in the near future!

Here are some behind-the-scenes shots of my man Nick working his magic with Angela:

After going over some logistics with my new second shooter Nathan Nowack during lunch today, I met up with my awesome photography friend and assistant for weddings Michelle to do a fun photo shoot over at Griffith Observatory. However, when we got there, the observatory was ridiculously busy so we decided to head on over to Travel Town and come back to this place a bit later. Travel Town is a small area filled with old but working trains, off the 5/134 freeway near Griffith Park. I’ve only heard of this place but never seen it, making my first trip to it extra exciting :).

Luck would have it that there was an endless amount of traffic from the observatory to Travel Town. We finally got there just in time to hear the PR speaker tell us the place will close in 20 minutes and that all vehicles still in the parking lot won’t be able to get out! Geez, talk about kicking visitors out at 5PM sharp. We managed to get a few shots around the tracks before leaving.

As Michelle and I headed back up the mountain to Griffith Observatory, we were shocked to see more cars than the first time around; hmm…shouldn’t there be less people since it’s later in the day? Duh, silly Henry, an observatory is more popular at night. Needless to say, we were disappointed that all of Los Angeles decided to hang out there this Saturday evening, making it quite difficult to get some shots with no people in them. I suppose better luck next time, right?

On a related note, we’re going to try and have a bi-weekly/monthly photo shoot like this one all across California; if you’re interested in joining us, drop me a line and I’ll fill you in on the details. Only rules are that you have to be an easy going and open-minded person; not being a psycho helps too :). First trip will be on 3/8 or 3/15.

Here are a few of the images I managed to snap at Travel Town:
