I had the utmost pleasure and privilege of attending Scott Robert’s Next Level Workshop in Oakland/San Francisco last week. Scott is a world-famous wedding photographer who is one of the very best at what he does. At this two-day workshop, he covered everything from marketing, branding oneself, lighting techniques, and pretty much the ingredients needed to be a top wedding/portraits photographer.
Not only is Scott a master of photography, but he’s an unbelievable instructor who has a passion for teaching, especially those that are new to the wedding photography industry like myself. I’ve been inspired and motivated all over again thanks to Scott’s workshop and am ready to apply what I’ve learned starting right now. Just as important as this workshop, if not more, were the amazing individuals that I met while attending it. This was my very first time attending a photography-related event, and I was overwhelmed by the wonderful people that were there too, some of which I hope to have a life-long friendship with. It was truly great to have that common interest and passion among all of us. Guys, if you’re reading this, I’m already stalking your blog so keep the updates coming ;).
Besides teaching in the classroom, Scott also demonstrated how he would find the best lighting and pose brides at an actual wedding. We walked around Jack London Square in the Oakland area the first day and then took a ferry ride to San Francisco on the second. Special thanks to three very lovely and patient ladies on hand that modeled for us. Alexis, Johanna, and Chelsie: thank you so much for working with us; you guys were the best!
Here are some of my favorite shots from the workshop. Note: some of the poses were set up by Scott. We shot after he demonstrated with his camera, so credit goes to him for that :). Please check out Scott’s blog to find out in detail how his workshop went and view more photos. Btw, I’d love to hear what you guys think about these shots!

Some behind-the-scene shots, like this one of Lynn showing his mad skills:

We each took headshots of one another. Here’s Lynn again (sorry I had to pick on you lol):

I love this shot of Harvey!

Scott demonstrating how to take awesome, awesome portraits:

Lastly, a few shots while on board the ferry from Oakland to San Francisco and back:

Meet Jacob: a very smart and super adorable little cousin of mine from San Francisco. He LOVES being a superstar in front of the camera; and I love the way he calls my name: Henwee! One of Jacob’s favorite characters is Thomas The Tank Engine, who has a friend named Henry. I bet jacob thinks I’m a life-size walking, talking, super dorky train :). Seriously, look how cute he is!

I’m currently in San Francisco for the Next Level Workshop taught by the super talented and awesome wedding/portraits photographer Scott Robert. It’s a two-day event that actually doesn’t start until Thursday, but I’m here a few days early to hang out with my favorite cousins (and crash their place – thanks Lily and Karen!).
I’ve never really gotten a chance to check out SF while growing up, but from what Lily showed me this past evening, this city is absolutely gorgeous, especially at night! No wonder so many photographers, especially ones that focus on weddings, love to work and live here. Okay, I better get some things ready for this week. I’ll try to blog here and there and include some photos from the workshop and various photo shoots. I’ll be back in Los Angeles this Friday night for Lisa and Aldous‘ wedding on Saturday and a Clippers/Rockets game on Sunday at Staples Center, where Elton Brand makes his home debut of the season, yay!
To potential and current clients: my apologies in advance if it takes me a little longer than usual to get back to your e-mails and phone calls. I still get both instantaneously via my iPhone and will do my best to respond as soon as possible. If it’s an emergency and you need to reach me right away, please do say so in your voice message or e-mail. Thank you!

Happy birthday to my favorite (little) cousin Justin! He turned six years old yesterday. I stopped by Toys ‘R’ Us to get him a present after one of my client meetings before heading on over to Justin’s house. Since his little brother Larry always acts like to boss him around, especially when it comes to playing with their one and only Nintendo DS, I thought of getting Justin one of his own. The only catch was I got him a game that would improve his math skills :).
Check out Justin sporting those new red headphones and both he and Larry mashing those buttons on their DS. Also notice how Larry gets the NEW DS and Justin gets the old one; also, even though it was Justin’s birthday cake, it was Larry that blew out the candles. What a bully :). Happy birthday J! Be sure to do all your homework and listen to your parents…as if he’s reading this!
