My engagement session guest books/albums have been selling like hotcakes this year! They’re a great way to share your e-session images with your guests and also have them sign their name and write a sentimental message to you and your future spouse. Just make sure someone is around the sign-in table to remind folks to not draw mustaches and beards on the images ;). Or if you don’t want a guest book, you can simply have an album (like a wedding one but with e-session images instead).
By far my most popular guest book size is a 8×10” horizontal; however, if you’d like a bigger album, a 9×12” works as well as a square 10×10” one. Page quantity starts at 30 and goes up from there. Generally, it’s between 32-38 pages with around 40-50 images give or take a few. Today, Julie and Ken‘s e-session guest book arrived in the mail. I took a few shots of it before delivering it to them via FedEx! Yum!
Front and back cover along with spine and spread of all the pages. J + K wanted to go for a funky and fresh font, totally fit their personality!
One of the pages inside. I love the black and white conversions. The image comes out so clean, crisp, and sharp, mmm!
The binding on the book is very strong and durable. I have two sample guest books from last year and after beating it up quite regularly at meetings and when traveling, they’re still like brand new. Totally love the super thick covers and pages! The paper is specifically made to be written on.
Some sample spreads. As always, I try to keep the design pretty clean and simple so all the attention is on the images. KAPOW! Like Ken and Julie’s Kung Fu stand, I think their guest book also kicks you know what!
Hilarie Hsu: Henry! Julie shared this with me, I LOVE IT! What a unique and personal idea, all in one, so glad we were able to work together and I look forward to seeing your photo promotional when we are all done! Keep in touch! ( 07/25/2009- 01:07 )
julie: Henry! We LOOOVE the book! You never fail to rock the charts! THANKS!!! See you in two months (yikes!)!!! ( 05/13/2009- 10:10 )
Inspired by The Joker’s calling card at the end of Batman Begins and with the help of an amazing branding/marketing/design company NHaK, I too got my own calling card. 2in-3.5in-1mm; repeated textured background of “the flower”; company name on the front; additional info on the back; makes this high-pitched clinging sound when I drop the card on a hard surface; and oh yeah, it’s metal. I’m totally stoked about my new calling card and can’t wait to pass them out to both old and new friends at upcoming events. I ordered only 250 of them because well, each one cost me nearly double digits in dollars. Consider yourself on my fave 250 if you get one ;).
Special thanks to Gamie of NHaK for designing these cards and also for the many other super sweet items she’s putting together for me and my clients. If you’re all about branding not only your company but YOU in the photography world, and want something that will help you stand out even a tad bit, I highly recommend contacting NHaK. Not only can they help create YOUR brand, but they can also turn that logo/name/color scheme into reality with high-end business cards and other stationaries. Ask for Chris if you do give NHaK a call and tell him Henry sent you :). Can’t wait to show you what else they’re putting together for me in the upcoming weeks!

Hey wedding peeps, I just wanted to share with you some images of my recent album, Elizabeth and Dat‘s 12×12”, 40-page, flushed-mount digital album. They opted to go with a photojournalistic storytelling theme with a touch of portraits and detail images, which is my favorite way of telling the story of a wedding day. This album is fresh out of the oven, so I snapped a few shots before taking it over to FedEx for delivery. Enjoy the gallery images and please let me know if you’re interested in getting one (if it isn’t part of your package already).
I try to keep all the designs clean, simplistic, and modern, with a mix of candid, portraits, and detail shots.
Black and white spreads? Collages of all the reception details and decor or party/dance shots? No problemo. I’ll work with you to ensure each page design is exactly what you want it to be. You can pick out all the images you want in your album, let me do it instead, or it can be a combination of both :).
You gotta touch the leather cover, hold the book in your hand, and flip through the sturdy and durable pages to get a good feel for the quality of these albums:
Araceli: These are all so beautiful!! Great job!! ( 04/15/2009- 10:56 )

Brian Fletcher: Awesome looking books, Henry. Great job as always! BTW, who makes those books up? ( 04/15/2009- 08:52 )
Henry Chen: Brian, thanks! I'm using Leather Craftsmen albums, and this one is a 3500 series. ( 04/15/2009- 07:45 )
Hey folks, Happy February! There’s been numerous behind-the-scene wedding-related projects that I’m working on since I came back from Europe, most of which I along with my close colleagues hope to reveal before the month is over. However, I wanted to give you a sneak peek at one of them. I’m super stoked to partner up with Andrew and La Dawna of IOBON Cinema, two amazingly talented cinematographers. I just love how they bring a movie-like, dynamic feel to the wedding videography world. Above all, they’re wonderful people whom I’m excited to get to know and work with.
On behalf of IOBON Cinema, I’m thrilled to announce we’re bringing both photo and video to your engagement session (and wedding). Instead of me just taking photos of your e-session and wedding (which isn’t too shabby right???), Andrew and La Dawna will also capture the love, life, and details through their high-definition cinematic video cameras. We’ll then work closely with each other to provide a product that has both types of media but presented in a original, modern, and simply refreshing way.
Imagine showing your engagement session photos AND video at your wedding receptional hall. Or perhaps sharing that video on your wedding website and later at home when guests come over. IOBON Cinema and Henry Chen Photography have come up with several attractive packages to include this “fusion” of photos and video for your e-session and wedding day. If interested, please contact me and I’ll send you the details. We’re offering a discount to our current couples too. Here’s a quick preview of the first one we did together of Soraya and Viral last month (thanks guys!).
Future ones will be solely of the couple with audio from them (interviews, candids, and just awesome shots/clips). Andrew, La Dawna, and I are still experimenting out new ways to mesh the photos and video together. They’re thinking of different camera and editing techniques and I’m exploring other ways to use light and composition in my photos and justapoxing them with the video clips. We both look forward to working with you! Special thanks to The Guggenheim Grotto, friends of Trini for allowing us to use their music in these videos.
Henry Chen: Thanks guys for the support and encouragement. We hope to improve on each video for the couples and for you :). I hope you all consider offering something like this to your brides and grooms. ( 02/08/2009- 09:28 )
Hagen: Great job Henry! While others talk about what they can do with photos and video combined, your forge the way and learn by doing. ( 02/08/2009- 09:28 )
erwinwijanto: I am glad you do this innovative bringing both video and photos together dude.. I know that back home in Indo, Most of them have photo's and video together. I can't wait to see more work from both you guys.. :) ( 02/06/2009- 01:57 )
Grace: Ooooooohhhh. Very innovative!! ( 02/06/2009- 07:06 )
