Soraya + Viral's Wedding: 6/27/2009 - When I grow up, I want to be just like Soraya and Viral. There's so much that I want to say not just about their wedding but also them. Despite June/July being crazy, insane, madness wedding months for me, I want to take a few minutes to let the wedding world know just how special and important Soraya and Viral are to me. I honestly didn't think things could get any better with weddings, photography, and my life. But last Saturday, that boundary was crossed in flying colors when Soraya and Viral had not one but two amazing ceremonies coupled with a beautiful reception.
I started the day bright and early at Soraya's house where she got ready with her lovely bridesmaids while Kenny got the guys hanging out at Viral's place. The first thing I noticed was that both Soraya and Viral had their family and relatives over to join them in their preparation. I couldn't have asked for a more heart-warming, selfless, thoughtful, and simply sweet couple to work with!
Throughout the day, both Soraya and Viral, as well as Soraya's cousin Mark made sure myself, Kenny, and my assistant Will were well-fed and hydrated. We all felt so humbled and in a way guilty (since we were working!) to have the families treat us with so much love and kindness. Soraya and Viral first had a Catholic ceremony followed by a Hindu/Indian one. On a side note: this was my first Indian wedding and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to shoot more (as well as Persian ones!). I've never shot a wedding with two ceremonies (both of which were a good hour plus mind you :P) but am so glad I finally did. It was truly moving and inspiring to see two distinct/unique cultures but more so to see the family and friends of each side support the other.
Because of weddings, I've learned so much about the different religion, culture, and personalities of wonderful individuals from all corners of this world. It's truly a blessing to experience the many ways people celebrate the beginning of marriage. And through Soraya and Viral, I found a special new meaning to what a relationship means. These two are truly meant for each other. I kid how they are the funniest couple I've ever worked with. Both were joking, laughing, and definitely making fun of each other from the minute they saw each other until the very last dance of the night.
In a world where it's rare to find good-hearted individuals, I feel so fortunate to be friends with two of them in Soraya and Viral. I know I'll be looking back at these images for many years to come and relive how much fun I had at their wedding. And I also know how our friendship, like their marriage, will last a lifetime. Thank you Soraya and Viral for everything. You both mean so much to me :).
