I had my very first HCP Mixer event at the studio in Downtown Long Beach. Around 15 wedding photographers stopped by to network and share info with each other. We even had Trini of NOZZA Studio stop by for a few minutes to chime in on the benefits of working with planners/coordinators.
It was really great seeing a few familiar faces and also many new ones, thank you all for taking the time to come by! Here are a few photos of me in action, taken by my good wedding photog buddies Gavin and Erin Wade.
I tried to keep the focus of the mixer on storytelling throughout the wedding day, but we also touched upon other topics like marketing, branding, albums, and online presence to brides.
We discussed different ways to show your work, both online and in person. One of the key things I'm pushing for in my own business and recommending to everyone is online slideshow a week or two after the wedding.
And yes, I've been a bit too lazy to take photos of the new studio :P. Thanks again to Gavin for grabbing this shot of the place!
I really hope the mixer and the info we discussed was beneficial to all the attendees. I'd love to hear your feedback via e-mail or the comment section below!
Next month's topic will be on Demystifying The Album Workflow. Here's an overview of the mixer (from the LFH website):
Having a tough time designing albums? Or worse, figuring out which companies to go with and what to price your albums? What about the sizes, pages, cover material, etc. to offer to your clients? Yikes! Well never fear...
In this HCP Mixer, I'd like to share with you my entire album process, which actually starts well before the day of the wedding. The goal is to have you walk away having those questions from above answered. Or if you're a season pro on album workflow, please stop by and share your story!

Added on 1/8/2010: I'm really excited to have West Coast Albums sponsor this mixer. They've been so gracious to offer a FREE 30-side album to a lucky winner whose attending the event; we'll raffle out the winner at the end of the mixer. In addition, all HCP event attendees/students will receive a 15% discount off their album orders (just mention me to them if you sign up).
There's also a very good chance one of West Coast Albums' representatives Jack Hudkins will be joining us at the mixer. He'll share their range of album styles, including cover materials, sizes, pricing, etc. See you guys on the 3rd of February!
